What should the tyre pressure be?
The correct pressure is a factor in safety and durability; it should be checked when cold. If checking whilst hot, add 0.3 atmospheres to the recommended pressure. Pressure check in tyres It should be carried out regularly, roughly once every two weeks.
A drop in pressure can be explained by:
- the natural escape of air through the tyre’s components,
- drops in ambient temperature,
- Minor punctures which, in the case of a tubeless tyre, do not cause an immediate loss of air, but may eventually lead to irreversible damage to the tyre.
For caravans and standard trailers: what are the correct tyre pressures?
To ensure the ‘car and trailer’ combination performs well, Michelin recommends:
- Tyre pressure for a car (fitted with radial tyres):
Increase the rear tyre pressure of the cars by 0.4 atmospheres (when cold) compared with the ‘normal operating’ pressure.
If the ‘other applications’ pressure is already more than 0.4 atmospheres higher, use that pressure. - Tyre pressure for a trailer or caravan:
If the manufacturer has not provided any guidance on pressure, inflate to 3 atmospheres whilst the tyre is cold.
